St. Peter’s Church is Rostock’s oldest parish church. It was first mentioned in a document in 1252 and is located on the high bank of the Warnow river. St. Peter’s was the landmark for sailors and fishermen for centuries, not only because of its tower with a height of 117 metres. Today, a lift leads to the viewing platform (45 m). In 1994, the Gothic spire, which was destroyed in World War II, was rebuilt.
The Old Market Square is direcly located by the St. Peter’s Church. Along with New Market and University Square, it is the oldest market place in Rostock and represents the origin of Rostock. In addition, the Slüter Monument commemorates the Rostock reformer Joachim Slüter.
