This project is an audio walk developed to resemble the sounds and the experience of the violent crossing of a border.
It approaches the difficulties people from different countries face when confronting the spatial, social, and political limitations of a border, which may vary according to the country’s context.
A border can take many forms: it can be natural (like the sea, the jungle, a river), or man-made (an airport, a wall, a checkpoint, a fence). Sometimes even one’s own home. Crossing it may entail different experiences, that can include pain, longing, and fear, but also anticipation and hope for a better life and future.
This walk demands each participant to become involved in diverse ways: from following a narrator’s orders, listening to real testimonies in different languages from border conflicts around the world (Palestine-Israel, Colombia-Venezuela, China), and dealing with discomfort and strangeness that comes from the combination of all these along with violent sounds, and heavy bodily sensations.
The walk encourages a deeper reflection of our own privileges, and of others’ difficult experiences and human rights violations. Long live the oppressed
